170 HZ FEATURE BY JOOST VAN GINKEL, COLUMN FILM 2011 (sound design and mix)
170 Hz tells the story of two deaf teenagers who fall for each other. It is the first real amorous experience for both, but the disapproval of one of the teen’s parents leads to their escape and subsequent refuge in the wreck of a submarine, clearly an ominous place to look for freedom.
To work on this film was a sound designer's dream! The absence of dialog focuses all attention on the soundtrack. It was also a joy to work on the soundscape of the old submarine that the couple is hiding in. The mesmerizing electronic music of composer Pascal Plantinga complemented our sound design and hopefully we made the border between music and sound design vanish.
